There is no constant, there are no certainties, and there is no guarantee to life. It is always in a state of flux. The nature, the emotions, circumstances, beliefs, ever evolving and changing. At every step we realise something anew. A newness that we remain unprepared for, but why? Why are we so afraid of changing? Why be afraid of newness?
Change is a process of nature where every aspect of life, universe, and surrounding sees a shift from an otherwise constant. This shift might be an evolution or growth, or it might be a paradigm shift outside the scope of our calculative prowess. A linear shift that we never accounted for and find it difficult to embrace. Whenever we are faced with such palpable shift, it sets us towards a further course of action.
As humans, when we are placed with a situation that is beyond our comprehension and requires us to move out of our comfort zone, we treat that situation as an obstacle. This very thought of facing obstacles deter us from accepting or reciprocating to change. In layman tongue, if something happens against our will or belief, we find it difficult to accept.
Let me introduce you to an example. I was working as an in-house legal counsel when I decided to put everything at stake and leave to pursue post-graduation from London. Two and a half years later, I returned to my hometown of Jaipur, starting everything anew, (kick)starting my career at the age of 30. Here, the COVID-19 pandemic was that change which impacted my (and the world’s) otherwise constant life, bringing an unwarranted change to my structured plan.
Considering the situation, I (like the countless others) could have just resigned myself to the fact that that the pandemic is beyond our control and do nothing about it; or I could accept that as a fact of change and work towards resolving my life ahead. You see, we can accept the situation but do not have to resign ourselves to it.
We need to understand that “life is change and change means life“. No matter how uncomfortable or painful it might be, we need to adapt ourselves to it with courage, determination and honesty.
Embrace the change, do not fight it.
Live it!
