A college friend of mine, who happened to be anxiety-prone, once made an offhand comment about life being not much good. According to him, it was the fault in his stars which made him worry too much. Reading and mugging up the same texts, day in and day out, yet on the day of the apocalypse I would sail through with a shrug and he would yet again FAIL.
A routinely exercise, leading up to the blaming up of gods, the universe conspiring against him, blaming me for not reading anything yet towering above the class, but never did he once questioned his worries. Why did he WORRY?
The persona of that friend exists in every one of YOU. An outrageous idea, perhaps, but a majority of you spend your years habitually worrying – even with no real threat to be concerned about. This is reflective of your exercises. Being wary of the “new year, new you”? Being wary of trying to be Tiggerish, enthusiastic in the cold, dark, midwinter mornings? Being wary of worrying too much? Worrying that you’ll fail? Worrying that a nuke will fall on your head?
There are 7.6 billion people on planet Earth. Why do you think that it is only you who is in the suffering? Why do you believe that only you have an addiction? Troubles? Problems? Billions of people and yet you let one incident or one person ruin your day. Billions of stars in the galaxy and yet you think one affects your daily process.
Try to redress your balance. Remember you are unique so is everyone else, nothing is common and nothing is exceptional, what you do is what makes you! The wheel of original position is theoretical, but the wheel of life is real and is build up by the thread that you decide to pull upon. Always recall the best things that have happened in your life. The thing that made you smile- even if for a fraction of a second. Maybe when you ran into an old friend; perhaps when you were promoted at work, or when you went off on a holiday.
Wonder yourself, what could go wrong or could have gone wrong. In what awful ways could it all fall apart? What disastrous chain of events might unfold? Think! Open the worry floodgates and allow yourself to be swept away.
Think! Why worry if it was in the past? Can you change your past?
Then why worry?
Think! Why worry about the future? Do you know what your future holds? Do you know how long will anyone of us live? Do you even know how nukes work?
Then why worry!
Think! Is something troubling you in the present? Can you do something about it?
Why worry if you can do something about it?
… and why worry if you cannot do anything about it?
So, why do you do it?
In the process of YOUR depressing little thought and exercises which comprises of a sufficient number of negative outlook(s), even the happiest moments in life can become a source of anxiety and stress. When you worry, you become preoccupied with an aspect of your life, desperately trying to anticipate what might go wrong and what might happen if it does. Although you might believe worrying is a constructive little exercise, actually, all it does is lower your mood. And when you start worrying it can be difficult to stop.
My mantra- Stop worrying and start living!
